Home and abroad, football was on the menu this weekend, being served in all of its flavours. Here at WWLTW, though, we like it best in one particular taste, namely, the ‘weird’ — and, thankfully, we did have enough of that.
Join us feast, then!
DWARFS, WAFA WALKING ON WATER
Whoever said lightning couldn’t ever strike twice should have waited for Matchday 23 of the Ghana Premier League before drawing a conclusion which, courtesy the heroics of WAFA and Ebusua Dwarfs, is clearly wide of the mark. As many as predicted Dwarfs’ shock win at Techiman City believed WAFA would bring Hearts of Oak’s unbeaten record on the road crashing in such stunning style — and, believe me, there weren’t many. Moral: never stop walking on water believing in miracles.
ROBBING LOGIC TO PAY PAUL
It’s seemed like forever, but it’s finally happening for Manchester United: oh, I’m referring to the biggest rip-off of the century that’s set to be sealed not many hours from now. The club’s official announcement that Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba had landed in the city for a medical came shortly before Zlatan Ibrahimovic fired Jose Mourinho’s United to a first title. And while fans of the Red Devils would reasonably deem Pogba’s capture more valuable than Sunday’s Community Shield triumph, it’s still ridiculous how a lad they let go for virtually nothing four seasons ago has suddenly grown good enough to become the world’s most expensive footballer. Ha!
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool is truly a case study in mood swings no woman can rival. The Merseysiders were good enough to beat Spanish champions Barcelona 4-0 in the International Champions Cup on Saturday but, just a day later, succumbed to Klopp’s former employers Mainz 05 by the same scoreline. It may have been a case of two Liverpools (the ICC version being arguably stronger than the latter) but, heck, WWLTW still can’t ‘think far’ on this one!
